ADDRESS REQUESTS

As established by resolution of the Jersey County Board, the Jersey County 9-1-1 Authority administers the addressing plan for the unincorporated areas of Jersey County and coordinates the assignment of addresses for all structures and the naming of streets, lanes, roads, and highways.

  • Individuals requiring an address for a proposed or existing structure should contact the 9-1-1 Administrative Office at (618) 498-5571 ext. 153 or apply in person at 201 West Pearl Jerseyville, Illinois 62052.
  • Developers of a proposed subdivision should view the county's subdivision ordinance by clicking here.  Application for address assignments and the  9-1-1 Director's certification should be obtained in the manner specified within the ordinance.

General addressing requirements are:
  • Every individual home or building on a given street should have a unique street address that fits consistently with neighboring addresses.
  • If a home or building has an external structure on the same piece of property such as an unattached garage, a storage shed, or a tool shop, the secondary structure should have its own individual address IF there is a separate phone line running from the structure, someone is living in the structure, or the secondary structure is the site of a business.
  • A telephone equipment box, cell tower, traffic signal, or billboard with telephone calling capabilities would require an individual, unique address for that structure.
Please note that these are meant as general examples and do not describe every possible addressing situation. Exceptions and special cases may exist that need to be handled differently.

Please allow up to two weeks for addresses to be assigned.   Once assigned, please ensure that your address is marked at your residence and clearly visible from the street.  Addresses should be marked on your house, both sides of your mailbox or affixed to the mailbox post.  It is also important to remember that from time-to-time situations arise which require a structure to be readdressed.  These situations include, but are not limited to:
  • Addresses being out of sequence
  • Addresses not assigned to the appropriate street
  • Structures on a road or lane that requires a name
While the 9-1-1 authority understands that receiving a new address can be a hassle, your new address will make it easier for law enforcement, fire, and medical personnel to quickly locate your home.

An address is intended to be a description of a specific location. The Jersey County ETSB aims to assign addresses that are logical and consistent, thus providing clearly recognizable descriptions of locations so that public safety and other services can locate places and respond in a timely manner.
